#GirlsCan

More than a month ago, I was tapped by Blogapalooza to participate on a campaign in support of World Vision’s #GirlsCan movement.

A campaign where we empower girls to succeed by giving them access to education, health, water, and livelihood. These girls can achieve their dreams by sponsoring them. Your P25 a day (P750 a month) can change a girl’s life forever, and for every girl sponsored, 4 other children in her community also benefit.

In support of World Vision’s #GirlsCan movement, let me share with you my childhood story that helped me become the empowered woman that I am today and an inspiring story about my success.

Childhood Story

I was born with a congenital heart defect. It sounds scary, but it basically means that my heart just wasn’t formed correctly when it was time for me to be born. Some babies are born with different heart defects that cause problems right away. My problem took a little longer to be noticed. Simply, I have an aortic narrowing in my heart and the narrowing was making my heart work harder.

My parents were told that I would not survive longer. At that time, the option of surgery was new and very few doctors were skilled in this type of procedure. I was doing well until 2008, when we discovered that my blood pressure was dangerously high. Unless my heart got fixed, I was told that I would never be able to grow up to be healthy and strong.

Fast forward to 2020, I am still here, my heart condition did not hinder me in achieving my dreams. My strength anchored me. A strength in heart is better than strength in movement. The doctor says its weak, but I say it’s strong. Why? Because I can love. I can care. I can feel. That’s not a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of life, a sign of empowerment. A sign that my disadvantage is a blessing, only to make me see that everything cannot go my way. To make me more aware of this hard but beautiful world I live in.

Success Story

People in this generation often want success without struggle and forget to pay their dues to the hard work. You can’t become a success story without the effort, the sweat, the pushing back of boundaries, and improving with every fall.

Year 2013, I started my website from scratch without any idea on the path that I was about to go to. I got doubted for so many times and almost quitted. But, I knew that I wanted to create something of my own and that’s what I did. I KEPT GOING.

Fast forward to 2020, I am already on my 7th year in this industry and I know I still have A LOT to learn. Others might think it is just SOCIAL MEDIA but to me, it is PASSION.

Just be patient, consistent and believe you can and will make it even when it is hard. Because everything you do is leading you exactly where you need to be. You just have to believe and know that no matter how hard it gets eventually you will make it.

#GirlsCan reach their full potential if we give them the tools they need. Let’s empower vulnerable girls so that they too can succeed.
