I’ll never forget the first time I heard “Sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never harm me.” I was a little kid wanting so badly to believe in those words my mother had taught me, so anytime I was sad, hurt or discouraged I would remind myself of this invaluable piece of advice.

Even now, as I write these words, I can hear my mother’s voice in my mind reminding me that our actions will always speak louder than our words. The thing is (and what I’ve come to realize as an adult), is our words do in fact carry a great deal of power. Power to push, power to pull, to influence, to stick, to label, to bring both joy and judgment and while what we say can cause a world of heartache to others, our voices can also facilitate change.

I’ve always believed sometimes all it takes is one voice to make a difference. One small act of kindness, so why not take a stand? Be that voice. What’s stopping you? While I look at social media as a beautiful outlet – a place where we can come together, support and encourage one another, I know there are those out there that do not feel the same.

For anyone who has experienced bullying, know that we see you, we hear you, and you are not alone. Remember, it is our differences that make us incredibly special. Look beyond the surface to see we are all one of a kind – a source of great beauty and inspiration.

  1. Wow, such strong, powerful words. Truly we can all make the world a better place simply by empowering one another rather than destroying and demeaning through hurtful words or actions. Thanks for sharing. Lovely backdrop too.

  2. I loved your thoughts behind this. Actions DO speak the loudest, but it’s also so incredibly important to use our voices for positive change too. If you don’t speak up against something that’s harmful, you’re wasting the privilege to do so. ESPECIALLY when it comes to bullying and online harassment. There’s just no need for any of it!

    • Totally agree Susie, we have this wonderful platform, that is our blog as our tool.. so? make if efficient and worthy. Thank you so much for visiting, it means a lot! 🙂

  3. I truly love your point about being the change you want to see; sometimes it really does just take one voice in the masses! Beautiful, minimal imagery in this post by the way darling 🙂 x

  4. I agree with you that our voices carry great power. All of the little and big things we do matter. Sometimes, we’re upset and while it’s great to vent, we need to be careful because posting it on social media can bite back in the future. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  5. Yes, I used to ponder on this saying too which became a song but sharp and careless words always do get into me. We can’t control those around us personally and more in social media, as long as we are not the ones saying or conveying hateful words we should be fine. Eventually these negative people will get it.

    • Exactly love! Like, if they throw stones at you.. don’t throw back. Instead, use them to build your own foundation. 🙂
